Brooklyn Beauty Queen: First Aid Beauty

[ad_1]

– Hey Beauty Lovers!

As someone who has struggled with acne and clogged pores for many years, I rely heavily on clay masks to keep my skin clear.

Ten years ago, there were only a few masks to choose from. I basically kept about 5 tubes of the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask in my skincare stash at all times and religiously used it 2-3 times a week.

Thankfully, skincare has come a long way over the past decade. It seems that clay masks are pretty popular and we now have access to a wide variety of formulas.

I recently wrote a post with all my favorite wash-off masks, and I included the First Aid Beauty FAB Pharma Calamine Pore Purging Mask under the Top Masks for Clearing Acne.

This is a mask that I use whenever my skin feels congested, and I am blown away by how quickly it can clear my skin during an active breakout.

If you are looking for a fantastic clay mask that will help keep your skin clear, this review is for you!

FAB Pharma Calamine Pore Purging Mask

The FAB Pharma Calamine Pore Purging Mask from First Aid Beauty ($30) is a clay mask that deeply cleans, tightens pores, and detoxifies the skin. I don’t usually like when skincare brands use the term detoxifying, but this mask really does clean out the pores!

I like that this mask is formulated with salicylic acid, it’s a fantastic ingredient for acne-prone skin. With continued use, this mask will help prevent breakouts and keep the skin feeling baby soft.

Product Claims:

  • Purges pores of dirt, oil, and impurities
  • Tightens the pores
  • Reduces oil
  • Smooths the skin
  • Improves the overall appearance of the skin with consistent use
  • Safe for sensitive skin

Key Ingredients:

  • Calamine Powder– helps draw out impurities, soothe irritation and gently exfoliate
  • Kaolin And Bentonite Clays– help absorb dirt, oil and impurities from skin
  • Salicylic Acid– helps brighten skin, smooth texture and purify and minimize pores
  • Tea Tree Oil– antibacterial properties, helps hydrate and soothe skin

Full Ingredients List:

water, kaolin, propanediol, bentonite, bis-stearyl dimethicone, pvp, phytic acid, hydrogenated jojoba oil, calamine, allantoin, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, butylene glycol, camellia sinensis leaf extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, chrysanthemum parthenium (feverfew) extract, decyl glucoside, glycerin, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, iron oxide (c177491), lauryl glucoside, leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, salicylic acid, salix nigra (willow) bark extract, silica silylate, sodium benzoate, sodium phytate, titanium dioxide, xanthan gum

Gently apply a thin layer of the mask to dry skin after cleansing. Massage gently, there is a gentle physical exfoliant in the pink clay, so make sure to work the mask into the skin well. Leave the mask on your face for 10 minutes or until the mask is dry. Rinse with warm water and dry your skin.

You can use this mask 2-3 times a week depending on your skin type. If you are only trying to prevent breakouts, use this mask at least once a week.

Do not let the mask get too dry on the skin. It will start to crack and it may draw too much oil out of your skin, leaving it dehydrated.

This mask is pretty difficult to remove with just water. I recommend using a damp face cloth to help with removal.

As I mentioned above, this mask has been great for preventing breakouts. I like to use it once a week when my skin is clear, and I increase the usage to 2 times a week when my skin is feeling congested. This normally happens t
owards the end of my hormonal cycle.

When I am actively breaking out, I usually use this mask every other day until my face is completely clear. The mask helps dry out all the spots and pulls out any gunk from the rest of my pores. It also calms down any redness I experience with my breakouts.

When my skin is clear, this mask helps keep my pores tight and happy. I suffer from very large pores, so any dirt that gets in them starts to look like blackheads. This mask has been an amazing addition to my skincare routine. A simple weekly treatment helps prevent breakouts and keeps my pore size in check!

Can you see the physical exfoliant in the mask?

Anyone with enlarged pores, oily skin, sensitive skin, and/or acne-prone skin can benefit from using this mask 1-3 times a week.

This mask is great for teenage, adult, and hormonal acne.

If you do have sensitive skin, please do a patch test before applying the mask to your whole face. You don’t want to end up with a burn or allergic reaction.

Trust me, it’s not fun…

Who shouldn’t buy this mask?

If you have normal skin that never breaks out, this mask isn’t for you. Save your money and buy an antiaging mask instead (like this one).
