Hemingway is hosting what it hopes to be a new annual event this weekend. The town is having a “fashion weekend” in an effort to promote some local shops in town including a high-end boutique.
The event is scheduled to take place April 7-9. On the first night, many of the local shops on the town’s main street will be open late while on Friday, a hair and beauty expo is planned. The event culminates in a fashion show Saturday.
“The purpose is just to drive more customers clients into the Hemingway area. And so it’s going to be a showcase of all the boutiques in town, showcasing their new arrivals,” Shamica Dollard, the chair of the organizing committee said. “And then also giving entrepreneurs in the area a chance to showcase some of their items.” Dollard also said that some of the beauty professionals in town such as cosmetologists will have a chance to show off their work.
Dollard said that all of the events will be free.
“We want it to be open where people don’t feel like they have to spend any money. But like I said, there will be displays, it will be a chance for you to purchase merchandise,” Dollard said. “But to enter, there’s no fee. You’ll go to enjoy live demonstration. And you’ll also get to enjoy the fashion show, sorry. All of that is free.”
While the event is to showcase some shops and boutiques in town, Dollard hopes it goes beyond that.
“It’s not only about the small businesses, but also about entrepreneurs that dream to one day be have a brick and mortar store,” Dollard said. “We’re not just catering to people with buildings. We’re catering to everyone who have a dream to one day be in a position where they can have customers and clients coming to actual location for them.”
