With one in a tux and the other in a flowing white dress, no one could accuse Cara Delevingne or Paris Jackson of failing to make an effort on Oscar night. The acted as each other’s date on the night of the ceremony, which this year made winners of British talent including Skins alum Daniel Kaluuya, and Promising Young Woman writer and director Emerald Fennell. Not that Cara and Paris were actually in attendance at the scaled-back ceremony for the Covid era, but they still dressed up in their finery to mark Hollywood’s biggest night of the year.
The 2021 take on the wedding look
Cara, who famously wore a top hat and tails to Princess Eugenie’s wedding, opted for a fresh take on the classic tuxedo from Dutch couturier Ronald Van Der Kamp’s spring 2021 couture collection. The style reworks the classic elements of a traditional suit in more contemporary, directional proportions, with cut-out finishes and a pair of black “villain” gloves. Cara — who is well known for her chameleonic approach to beauty — posed with newly brunette waves in a deep side parting. (What would her fans on TikTok say?)
All in white, Cara’s co-conspirator, Paris, likened their looks to those of a bride and groom on their wedding day. She wore a white Vivienne Westwood dress with chunky black heels and her regular talismanic jewellery. When she shared a snap of their outfits on Instagram, Paris led with a painting by Tracee Gentry Matthews, who creates her works live at weddings as the nuptials are taking place. The piece Paris posted shows a bride reaching up to kiss her groom, surrounded by the artist’s colourful brushstrokes. Was Paris’s cryptic post a hint that the two stars are dating? They’re keeping us guessing for now.
Cara was clearly feeling herself on the night, as she’s swiftly made one of the photographs her Instagram profile photo — although Paris didn’t make the crop on this instance. The British Vogue cover girl wasn’t the only one enjoying the photograph of the pair, with Naomi Campbell, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato and Cara’s ex Ashley Benson stopping by to drop comments and emojis in praise of their Oscar night looks.
