Pete Davidson’s Diamond-Set Rolex Leads the Best 2022 Met Gala Watches

[ad_1]

Monday night’s Met Gala and its Gilded Glamour theme left a lot to interpretation. Many attendees wore tuxedos with coattails, tiaras, and canes. Riz Ahmed addressed “a love letter to immigrant workers” who helped make the Gilded Age so gilded. Sebastian Stan went for head-to-toe highlighter pink and didn’t worry too much about the theme. The watches, too, came in a wide variety, showing off all the ways attendees interpreted glamour. That’s what’s so exciting about watches in 2022: there are more than a few ways to crush a red carpet and look elegant when it comes to wristwear. Here are the best watches from the 2022 Met Gala.

Taylor Hill

Pete Davidson’s Rolex Datejust

The Datejust, one of Rolex’s more entry-level pieces, isn’t the first watch from the Crown that comes to mind when you think of glamour. But Davidson’s watch packs a secret ornate punch: the hour markers are made out of diamonds.

Mike Coppola

Ryan Reynolds’s Omega Speedmaster

This watch hits every note Reynolds needs for a Met Gala flex. The watch is brand new. It comes with an 18-carat gold case and on-trend green dial. And, of course, the Speedy has story coming out of the wazoo: this is the watch that was part of the first moon landing.

Jamie McCarthy

Oscar Isaac’s Cartier Tank Française

At this point, the Cartier Tank feels like the official watch of Being Fancy. I like that Isaac broke out the even daintier Française model Monday night.

ANGELA WEISS

Corey Gamble’s Patek Philippe Tiffany Nautilus

Naturally, 2022’s most hyped watch made an appearance at the Met Gala. What could be more befitting the theme than the mega-exclusive 5711 Nautilus with the Tiffany dial?

Mike Coppola

Jack Harlow’s Rolex Sky-Dweller

Another way to do elegance in 2022: a killer sport watch. Even though it’s made out of stainless steel rather than gold or platinum, the Sky-Dweller never looks out of place on the red carpet.

Mike Coppola

Adrien Brody’s Cartier Santos

The Santos was one of the first wristwatches—a special, personal commission for pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont who wanted a timepiece that wasn’t trapped in his pocket during flight. This version of the watch arrives in solid gold. So, yeah, I’d say it fits the Gilded Glamour bill.

Mike Coppola

Michelle Yeoh’s Richard Mille RM 07-01 Baguette

Michelle Yeoh wore a watch so brand spanking new that a representative for the watchmaker told us they don’t even have images of it yet. Consider Yeoh’s red carpet walk the unofficial lookbook.

Jeff Kravitz

Dwyane Wade’s Vacheron Constantin Patrimony

Wade’s Patrimony might be the platonic ideal of the dress watch. The piece’s dial is utterly simple, but the materials used—pink gold case and alligator leather strap—are pure luxury.

Jeff Kravitz

Gunna’s Rolex Day-Date

One surefire way to nail the Gilded Glamour theme? A solid-gold watch, like Gunna’s Day-Date.

Dimitrios Kambouris

Victor Glemaud’s H. Moser Venturer Vantablack Diamonds

Designer Glemaud told us he appreciated the “diamond bezel in combination with the Vantablack dial.” It’s hard to argue with that combination. Nothing really sets off the shine of diamonds like the blackest black on record.

Jeff Kravitz

Nyjah Huston’s Roger Dubuis Excalibur Cobalt Blue 42MM

Also a fan of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur model? None other than Michael Jordan. Huston is in good company with this choice.

Jeff Kravitz

Regé-Jean Page’s Longines DolceVita

Page takes the classic route with his Longines. Slender, square-style watches have long been the standard timepiece for getting dressed up.

Dimitrios Kambouris

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Cartier Tank Must

SJP wore the relatively new version of the Tank. Cartier brought back its Must line last year as a more affordable option for Tank lovers.
