The best fashion updates to transform your wardrobe this autumn

Yes, the end of our (limited number of) warm, sunny days is here – but the benefit to cooler temperatures is the influx of cosy knits, statement jackets and lots of layering.

Autumn fashion is one of our favourites as you get to play around with a range of styles and trends. While hotter climates bring back the airy summer dress, we know many of you are screaming out to shrug on a little jacket over the top – or experiment with your look via a pair of thigh high boots.

Having previously been treated to a little peek at the winter collections for a ton of brands, there was one thing I noticed at every preview: wardrobe staples. While there’s lots of exciting newness to come, there were also a handful of pieces that I was sure I’d seen before. In fact, there are six pieces that were staples in spring/summer’s collections and are clearly set to be hero pieces this season too.

Shopping-wise, it’s brilliant news. A longer trend ‘shelf life’ for fashion pieces means they’ll continue to look fresh over the years, so we can buy less and buy better. These pieces are testament to that: they’re classic but au courrant, and are sure to up your autumn/winter style game…

What to wear in autumn/winter

The knitted vest

The sweater vest is a trans-seasonal staple: no sleeves means it’s a dream for layering, and it looks just as good over a striped shirt as it does a floral midi dress. Of course, knits are commonplace come the colder months, so it’s no surprise the humble vest is set to make an appearance this season. It means that if you haven’t yet invested in one, rest assured it’s set to be a hero item well into next year.
