Equal Pay Day 2022: What would £564 mean to you?

This Sunday 20th November is Equal Pay Day 2022 – the day when, due to the gender pay gap, women effectively stop earning relative to men.

Join our partners at Fawcett Society, the UK’s leading charity campaigning for advancement in gender equality and women’s rights, as they campaign to close the gap.

Women are taking home an average of £564 less than men a month. That’s an average monthly grocery shop for a family of five. It’s time to fix this and put women at the heart of the UK’s economic recovery. #EqualPayDay

To tackle the gender pay gap, Fawcett is calling on the government to:

  • Improve gender pay gap reporting by introducing mandatory ethnicity pay gap reporting, requiring action plans from employers to tackle their pay gaps and lowering the threshold to 100 employees.
  • Require employers to offer flexible work arrangements as a default and to advertise jobs with flexibility built-in wherever possible.
  • Reform the childcare system so it works for families to increase affordability while also ensuring our children get the best start in life.
