Last night, the place to be was 3 Mercer Street—aka the Roll & Hill shop, aka the location for the 2-day MatchesFashion x Vogue Holiday pop-up shop. It was the opening night of the store (which is also open today from 10 am-7 pm, RSVP to attend here!) and the space was filled with incredibly pretty things as well as some of the designers who make them. Present and accounted for were designers Joseph Altuzarra, Batsheva, Dion Lee; also there were Carlotta Kohl, Ivy Getty, Lili Buffett.
Everyone gathered to peruse the assortment, which was curated by Vogue editors—many of whom were also in the crowd last night. Each editor had hand-selected an item and this was communicated via hang tags looped around party frocks and around the stems of glassware for all to see. Executive Fashion Director of Vogue.com Rickie de Sole’s pick—a party-ready Saloni velvet frock with crystal bows—could be found on the second floor of the shop but she also just so happened to be wearing it for the occasion. It was a dress that truly had her name on it. Meanwhile, Hamish Bowles’s pick—lux Charvet slippers—could be seen on a table on the ground floor and Chioma Nnadi’s Batsheva dress hung on a rack and rubbed elbows with some other delights from Duncan, Halpern, and Andrew Gin.
At some point in the 2-hour event, all three floors were teeming with fashion folk. The cocktails and crowds didn’t stop the shopping, though; MatchesFashion associates were on hand to wrap up any purchases in their signature marbled paper. Those who didn’t get a chance to go home with something that caught their eye would have to come back today. The pop-up shop is here today but gone tomorrow!
